Frequently Asked Questions

The essentials for placing an order. For care and storage instructions after pickup, see the card included with your cake.

01 Ordering and Lead Times

How far in advance do I need to place my order?

  • Custom cakes: minimum 5 business days

  • Catering and event orders: minimum 15 business days

  • Wedding cakes: minimum 30 business days

If your date is sooner than that, call us at (240) 200-4490 and we will try our best to accommodate your order.

How does the ordering process work?

All custom, wedding, and catering orders begin with an inquiry form on our website. Once we receive your submission, we send a personalized quote to your email within 24 hours. Your order is not confirmed until you receive, approve, and complete payment for your quote.

02 Payment and Cancellation

What is your deposit and payment policy?

A deposit is collected once you approve your quote, not when you first submit an inquiry. Your order is not held or scheduled until the deposit is paid. If your plans change before we begin production, the deposit is fully refunded.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made more than 5 business days before your pickup date receive a refund minus a 10 percent cancellation fee. Cancellations made within 3 business days of pickup are non-refundable, as production will have already begun.

03 Allergies and Dietary Restrictions

Do you accommodate gluten-free or dairy-free requests?

Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate gluten-free or dairy-free requests. All Pâte à Cake products contain gluten and dairy as core ingredients.

What allergens are present in your products?

Our products are made in a facility that handles wheat, dairy, eggs, tree nuts, and soy. Cross-contact is possible. If you have a severe allergy, please contact us before placing an order so we can advise you appropriately. Our tiramisu also contains espresso and may contain trace amounts of alcohol. Cakes are best consumed within 48 hours and should be kept refrigerated.

04 Design and Custom Orders

What is the difference between Classique, Artisan, and Couture?

Classique is our entry-level design: a beautifully finished cake with your choice of cream color, a written message, and a simple accent on top. Artisan is a step up in complexity, with fondant accents, themed decorations, and a fully decorated exterior. Couture is our most elaborate tier, encompassing custom shapes, sculpted figures, and full handcrafted artistry. All three are quoted individually by email.

05 Wedding Cakes

Do you offer wedding cake tastings?

Yes. A $50 tasting fee is required to book your appointment, and you may taste all 4 of our flavors. This fee is applied as a deposit toward your final wedding cake payment.

06 Cancellation policy

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made LESS than 5 business days before your pickup date receive a refund minus a 10 percent cancellation fee. Cancellations made within 3 business days of pickup are non-refundable, as production will have already begun.

Already Have Your Cake?

Our cakes are made fresh, with real cream, which is exactly why they belong in the refrigerator. Keep yours chilled and enjoy it within 48 hours. Outside the fridge, two hours is the limit, and less on a warm day. For the ride home, the floor in front of your passenger seat is the safest spot: flat, cool, and steady. Handle it gently, and it will arrive exactly as it left us.
